Are you ready to uncover Ardmore’s hidden treasures? This enchanting village is not just a feast for the eyes with its stunning beaches and breathtaking landscapes; it’s also a place steeped in rich maritime history waiting to be explored. From the iconic Round Tower and Cathedral to miles of scenic walks, Ardmore offers endless adventure opportunities, whether planning a day trip or a family vacation.

The Stories Beneath the Waves

Ardmore’s connection to the sea runs deep, and its waters hold stories that echo through time. The coastline has witnessed remarkable events, from U-boats patrolling the shores to refugees seeking solace during turbulent times. Many lives have been intertwined with the ocean, and honoring their stories is essential.

This is where filmmaker John Murphy steps in. With a passion for storytelling and a keen eye for visual design, John has dedicated months to creating a film that captures the essence of Ardmore’s maritime heritage. His work aims to shed light on the lives lost at sea and celebrate the village’s enduring relationship with the water.

Meet John Murphy: The Creative Force Behind the Lens

Based in Ardmore, John is an emerging talent in film and design. Currently pursuing his Drama, Theatre, and Performance degree at NUI Galway, he brings a unique perspective to his projects. With aspirations that mirror the whimsical charm of Carl Fredricksen from Up, John’s creativity knows no bounds.

His portfolio includes theatre productions and promotional work, showcasing his versatility as a Freelance Editor and Motion Graphics Designer. John is your go-to guy if you’re looking for someone who can bring your vision to life!

Live to try new things and explore new places in Ardmore. With local heritage sites like the Round Tower and Cathedral, miles of walks, beautiful beaches for every season, top-rated hotels, experiential activities and more, you’ll never be short of great things to do in Ardmore, whether planning a day trip or a family vacation.

Stories about places are part of our tradition.

Beyond the beaches and beneath the bay, Ardmore contains a rich maritime history.

The sea has been a place of possibility as U-Boats roamed the coasts, and refugees from the wars floated in. Many lives have been lost off our shores.

This is an effort to tell some of their stories and appreciate Ardmores connection with the sea.

It is a collection of the history and stories that John Murphy found emanating from an accruing debt to Siobhan Lincoln, as well as this website (ardmorewaterford.com). This is the film he’s been working on for months.

John Murphy is a fantastic Filmmaker, Visual Designer, and Storyteller. John is based in Ardmore, West Waterford. He is soon to be (he hopes) a graduate of NUI Galway’s Drama, Theatre, and Performance program. He aspires to look like Carl Fredricksen from Up and gets closer by the day.

His work has focused on Theatre and promotional work. He operates remotely as a Freelance Editor and Motion Graphics Designer. Locally, he is available for full productio.n

We hope you enjoy it! If you’d like to support John and see more of my work, you can follow him on instagram @slaod_ and on his YouTube.

For the fiscally inclined, you can buy him a coffee (perhaps a pint if god is good) at https://ko-fi.com/slaod, or just share the film with friends and family. It’s all very much appreciated!
